My mentors name is Jovanna Penney and she is the FRC (Family Resource Center) Program Manager at CVCC (Chula Vista Community Collaborative). She is such an outgoing person who is so involved with the community. Over the course of my internship, one of my tasks was to interview Jovanna to get to know my mentor better and these are the questions she was asked and all of her responses.
What inspired you to want to work with CVCC and how long have you been here?
Jovanna saw that she desired to work in management and help the community. All of her jobs have been community Based and she enjoys being a part of the community. She loves to make ideas happen. Jovanna has been with CVCC for a year and 3 months.
What makes you want to come to work everyday?
Knowing that there is still work to be done in the community, knowing there are more voices to be heard, and working with great people.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Jovanna enjoys photography, going to church, and working (because she works in the community)
Has the work environment at CVCC changed since I started as an intern?
Jovanna said that she believes that I reminded the office to be more youthful, to make it a place where interns can have fun, and to modernize the office setting
What is the most difficult part of your day? How do you overcome it?
The hardest part of Jovanna’s day is learning to let go and realize that she can't make everyone happy all of the time. Jovanna attends an accountability group that helps her by reminding her of different things.
What is your favorite part of your everyday?
PEOPLE!!
When you were a junior in highschool, what were your career aspirations?
She wanted to be either a counselor or an interior designer
How did you first get involved with cvcc?
A colleague gave her a job description and an application and she just went for it!
How and where do you find inspiration?
By reading the bible and knowing that she has a greater purpose. She also finds inspiration through helping others.
How do you stay focused in order to complete your work?
Jovanna finds that writing out lists helps her stay focused.
What is one thing you still struggle with when trying to work?
Sticking with one thing is something Jovanna struggles with when working, and she said that people often remind her to stay focused
